Victoria Sustainable Arts Coalition Open House

in collaboration with the Victoria Arts Council

Acrylic on tracing paper, variable dimensions

I was invited by the Victoria Arts Council to create a temporary site-specific installation to inspire visitors of the Community Open House Event, hosted by the Victoria Sustainable Arts Coalition. The event was held to introduce the arts community to the future downtown cultural district, which is proposed to be housed in a commercial office building downtown Victoria, BC.

Inspired by the utilitarian former office space and open floor plan, I designed this piece to be walked around and through by visitors. Expanding on previous hanging installations, I chose a bright colour palette and used a fast and loose painting style. While installing the piece in the space, I was intentional with the composition and overlap of the panels, making sure the area I was working with appeared full yet with some variation in height and negative space to see through.

It was used as the backdrop for the day's speakers, and photographed for the article in the Times Colonist.
