Artists’ statement
“Internal Dialogues” is the first collaborative exhibition by these two artists. They worked together to create a site-specific installation using their joint interest in abstraction and contemporary printmaking. They took the 2D and often diminutive medium of printmaking, and through its tradition of multiples, made an expansive and interactive atmosphere through 3D paper sculptures and floating panels. Through “Internal Dialogues” the artists explored their own existing language of markmarking, and collaborated with each other throughout the printing process to build a visual dialogue between each other and the viewer.
The artists worked together through overlapping mark making by layered prints, working on the same plate or layering plates that they have each worked on separately during the printing process. They used some of the same printing plates and colours to connect Desiree’s sculptures and Lucia’s panels, playing with the interaction between foreground and background.
