Art-in-Kiosk
City of Victoria, Victoria BC, August 2023-January 2024
Digital print on canvas 40”x30”
Kiosk, variable dimensions
“2020.44” was installed on the corner or Courtney St & Douglas St in downtown Victoria, BC. The permanent art kiosks are spread throughout downtown to promote art in the community outside of the gallery, and give rotating public art opportunities to local artists. The City of Victoria licensed the image of the original painting, and reproduced it as a digital print on canvas to hang in the kiosk for a period of six months. There are five kiosks, and each kiosk had a piece from a different artist.
The original piece “2020.44” was acrylic and collage on paper 30”x22”. I had been walking, looking and painting about my own neighbourhood. It became an exploration of place through colour and pattern in Pacific Northwest cities. The lush greens of the trees, plants and moss, in contrast with the grey and linear elements of the city inspired this work.
This map shows the kiosk route on Douglas St, where the public could view the art 24/7 on the street.
